Genesis 6:5 says the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Consequently, the Lord said in Genesis 6: 17 I will bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall die. True to his word, God commanded Noah to build an Ark into which he entered with his family and pairs of every animal, male and female.

Genesis 7: 10 says after seven days the waters of the flood came upon the earth and continued for forty days. All lives outside the Ark were destroyed by the flood. Thereafter Genesis 8: 3 says the flood receded from the earth continually. Then God said to Noah and his sons with him in Genesis 9: 11 I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.

As a sign of his promise, he said in Genesis 9: 12-16 this is the sign of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth… When the bow is in the clouds, I will look upon it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. Biblically, this explains the origin of the rainbow and all it is to it.

God’s rainbow in the clouds

As referred to in Genesis 9 the rainbow has special features and significance. It signified God’s covenant with mankind; it has a bow-like curvature; it has multiple colours; the colours are in distinct layers; among others. We are inclined to believe that God carefully designed the rainbow to send us divine messages within the covenant beyond science and fiction.

The rainbow covenant

The covenant established God’s everlasting promise never to destroy mankind with flood anymore. It was initiated and completed by God himself. The rainbow and its purpose must not be desecrated with the same or similar dishonor or evil or sin which made God to destroy the earth with flood. If the rainbow reminds God of his covenant with us, it must equally remind us of our covenant with God to remain true and righteous. Any sign which reminds us of a covenant with God must be sacred to us.

The rainbow symbol as is being used by the LGBTQ+ group is thus contrary to scripture. James 4:17 says whoever knows what is right to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. Today, it is abused to spite or mock God. Galatians 6:7 says do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he shall also reap. Those who love respect and obey God must not subscribe to such audacious misuse of God’s rainbow sign. Jesus said in Luke 13: 3, I tell you, No; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.

The bow-like curvature

The rainbow as the name suggests has a curvy nature like a bow. In ancient times, wars were effectively fought with bows and arrows among others. The rainbow thus symbolized the end of battle against our destruction by flood. The grace of God which established the covenant with Noah and subsequent generations must not be taken for granted. Romans 6:1 that shall we continue to sin whilst grace abounds? God’s bow is also a covering for us in battle because of his love and forgiveness.

The curvy bow also symbolized a shield that was also used in ancient battles against the darts and spears of the enemy. God reminds us of his protection against his wrath if we vacate sin. 2 Samuel 22: 31; Psalms 8: 30  say this God- his way is perfect; the promise of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. God’s beautiful shield for mankind can only be maintained with righteousness and faith. God’s rainbow is not for sin or immorality as the ungodly want to impose on the world.

The multiple rainbow colours

God chose seven colours in the rainbow to represent wholeness. Genesis 2: 2 says and on the seventh day God finished his work which he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done. All the colours set in the rainbow symbolize God’s covenant with his creation whatever their origin. It however does not mean God accepts evil along good; sin along righteousness; or wrong along right under the misguided belief that God accepts diversity of one religion and LGBTQ+.

2 Corinthians 5: 15 says and he (Christ Jesus) died for all, that those who live might live no longer for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. We are one people of God under God’s covenant of grace. Romans 12: 5 says though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. The colours under the same bow suggest that we are one under God’s protection. Galatians 3: 28 says there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for we are all one in Christ Jesus. We must be one in holiness rather than sin.

God’s people must reclaim the God given rainbow symbol as crusaders for Christ Jesus. Accepting and adopting or adapting immorality as conditionality for financial assistance, job security, stability of sovereign states and governments, non interference in family life from security agencies, freedom and liberty from incarceration, etc. are most ungodly, demonic and evil. Matthew 4: 4 says man shall not live by bread alone, but by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of God.  Philippians 4: 19 says God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. We must stand firm in faith.

Where we face persecution because of the truth, 2 Corinthians 12: 9 says his (God) grace is sufficient for us and his strength is perfected for us in our weakness. Jesus cautioned in John 15: 20 remember the word that I said to you, a servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.  In spite of persecution, we must rise up to our divine responsibility to defend the cross of Christ Jesus.

Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, as we humble ourselves before you today, may you continue to remember your covenant with us and shield us against the darts of the enemy when sin knocks at our doors. Keep and preserve us as one body in you in righteousness and forgiveness. Open our eyes to see the dangers ahead of sin so we may embrace the cross in truth in your holy name, Amen!!
