This question can be answered by everybody from one of the following perspectives; personal knowledge; perspectives of others; your purpose of life; and God’s account.
Personal knowledge
Jesus in answering this question said among others, that he is the true vine, John 15:1; he is one with the father’ John 10:30; he is the bread of life, John 6:35 and verse 48; and he is the way, the truth and the light, Luke 5:32.
Everybody knows himself through the medium of his conscience more than anyone can know of him. Some are in denial publicly because they know they are guilty but the denial does not change the facts. What is your standing with the Lord according to your conscience? What rules your life, materialism or obedience to Christ? Who are you by your conscience?
Perspectives of Others
Jesus asked his disciples in Matthew 16:13, who do people say that I am? He was interested in his spiritual identity than the physical as known to people. When the answer was one of perception rather than the truth, Jesus doubled down on the issue.
What do people say about you and is it the truth? Perceptions may not always reflect the truth. They are based on hearsay or rumours or lies. It is uninformed. Relying on these testimonies may lead one astray. Galatians 6:7 says; do not be deceived, for God is not mocked.
Your purpose in life
Jesus identified himself also by his purpose or mission in this life. He said, I came to sinners to repent, Luke 5:32; my peace I leave you; not as the world gives, John 14:27; he said love one another even as I have loved you, John 13:34 and John 15:12.
Your purpose in life will largely determine who you are. It is a measure of your true identity. What enters a man does not devour him but what comes out of him, Matthew 15:11. Is your purpose in life God centered or not? What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his life? Matthew 16:26.
God’s perspective
God testified about Jesus, he is my beloved son, Matthew 3:17; listen to him, Matthew 17:5. The angels said Jesus will save his people from their sins, Matthew 1:21. The Holy Spirit testified that Apostle Paul is a servant of Jesus Christ, Romans 1:1.
What does God say about you? Are you pure in heart? Not all who say Lord, Lord will enter the Kingdom of God but those who do the will of the Father, Matthew 7:21. Jesus is still crying for your repentance, John 1:23. Are you ready to receive him? Make a decision now, do not procrastinate.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, please help me to be true to my identity that I may serve you in righteousness. Amen!!
