In Christian doctrine, Jesus has been elevated to the glorious position at God’s right hand and qualified to receive God’s glory and honour because God has permitted it to be so. What then is the extent of Jesus’ authority which has placed him in such an enviable position?
The extent of Jesus’ authority
The extent of Jesus’ authority which God has sanctioned and ordained is so expanse, deep and high as the authority of the Father in heaven. Human mind cannot comprehend or fathom the extent. In spite of this unimaginable power and authority, Jesus Christ who is our Lord and Saviour is so humble that he condescended to us in order to save us from our sins and from our souls perishing in eternity.
Jesus has the power and authority to forgive us our sins upon confession and repentance; to show us the way to eternity in heaven and to avoid hell fire; to heal, raise the dead, and restore the afflicted; to set the captives free; and to grant us his grace, mercy and love however he decides. Jesus has been given the power and authority of God to receive God’s glory and praise and honour.
Receiving God’s honour and glory
2 Peter 1:17 said for when he received honour and glory from God the Father and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased, we heard this voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. God himself has glorified and honoured him and we must do likewise because he deserves it in its fullness.
Revelation 5:12 also says that worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honour and glory and blessing. Verse thirteen also reads in part, to him who sits upon the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honour and glory and might for ever and ever.
Interceding for us
Jesus also has the power and authority to intercede for us before God for which reason we are yet alive, Romans 8:26-27; 34. By his successful intercession for us, he has the authority to give us peace as the prince of peace in this life and hereafter; John 14:27. He has the capacity to satisfy all our needs in so far as we ask in his name from God the Father Almighty, John 14:13-14; 16:24. He has authority to protect us from the enemy, Mark 16:17; Philippians 2:10.
Jesus has God’s authority to lead us in holiness and righteousness by cleansing us from sin, 1 John 1:19. Jesus is our high priest in the order of Melchizadek, Hebrews 5:5, 10. He has authority to assume our burden, Mathew 11:28. He has God’s authority to be our judge on the judgment day, 2 Timothy 4:8; Acts 17:31. He sits at God’s right hand in heaven, Mark 16:19.
Loving us
Jesus has authority to love us. He said that as the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love, John 15:9. It will be suicidal to reject Jesus Christ who is our judge before the throne of God, Luke 10:16; John 12:48. There is no controversy about who Jesus Christ is. He is the way, the truth and the life and we cannot get to the Father without him, John 14:6. He is the savior of the world including all of us irrespective of our respective faiths and belief systems, John 4:42; 1 John 4:14.
Jesus Christ as his name suggests is our Lord and Saviour with authority and this fact cannot be changed or compromised. It is eternally written in heaven and sealed with the blood of the Lamb. Jesus does for us what the Father would do for us and has authorized him to do.
Rejecting Jesus
We cannot reject Jesus’ Lordship because besides him, there is none other to save us but by his blood. Matthew 5:18 says that till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, of what the word of God says will pass from the law until all is accomplished. We must prayerfully accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour so that we can be free from sin and eternal death in hell fire.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, you are our Saviour and redeemer. Do not leave us to perish but restore unto us the joy of your salvation and wash our souls today. Thank you Jesus for answered prayers, Amen!!
