Jesus Christ did not leave us lonely but with an inheritance which is his pure blood. The blood of Jesus has unique qualities for many reasons. It has no iota of sin; it is ordained by God; it established a covenant with God for us; it is soul cleansing; it has unlimited divine qualities; and it has the power and authority of Christ Jesus. The blood of Jesus Christ is not of the dead but for the living because the dead have no use of the blood.
Satisfied with Jesus as our redeemer, we agree with Paul in 2 Timothy 4:2 to preach the word, with urgency in season and out of season, to convince, rebuke, and exhort, to be unfailing in patience and in teaching. We most often do not avert our minds to the works of the blood of Christ or that it is subsumed in the general crucifixion message. This is why we implore you to join us to discuss it to God’s glory and honour through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
Jesus’ covenant blood
The blood of Jesus Christ was for forgiveness of sins of the world. It was not only shed on the cross but throughout Jesus’ torture of unprecedented and unparalleled barbarism. As he was scourged, flogged, a crown of thorns forced on his head, bruised on his journey to the cross, and nailed to the cross in both hands and feet, he shed his blood for us. Jesus also shed his blood for us when he was pierced with a spear on his side, John 19:34. At every stage of our life’s journey the blood of Jesus becomes relevant. It is timeless and for all generations.
The blood of Jesus Christ became the covenant for us with God by whom we received power and authority. Jesus said in Matthew 26:28; Mark 14:24 that this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 1 Corinthians 11:25 says this cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. By the blood of Jesus, we have an irrevocable favourable covenant with God that makes God handy to us for all times and seasons.
Reconciliation to God
Colossians 1:20 says through him God has reconciled to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. So by Jesus’ blood covenant, we have received reconciliation which has qualified us to access unlimited grace by simply appropriating his blood. We are known to God because of the authority and power in the blood of Jesus. We can ask for things of righteousness in the blood and it shall be done for us. Are you reconciled to God through the precious and immaculate blood of Christ Jesus? We cannot be restored to God without the blood of Jesus Christ.
Serves as surety and mediator
Hebrews 7:22 says that the blood of Jesus Christ makes Jesus the surety of a better covenant. Hebrews 8:6-7 say Christ has obtained a ministry which is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises. For if the first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion for a second. There is no other blood covenant by which we can have better surety or mediator but the blood of Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 9:15 says therefore he (Jesus) is the mediator of the new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred which redeems from the transgressions under the first covenant. Jesus is the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks more gracefully than the blood of Abel, Hebrews 12:24. The blood is our mediator and speaks for us before God’s judgment seat of grace. There is no other blood or anything to compete with or substitute the blood of Jesus Christ. We may loiter or patronize dark or strange sources for surety or mediation but all are rejected before God saves the blood of Jesus, Hebrews 10:19-27.
Divine security for our souls
The blood of Jesus is our divine security. Divine security is primarily God’s protective power over our souls by the blood of Jesus Christ. God sometimes at his own pleasure extends it to cover our physical lives or situations. Our physical eyes cannot fathom the extent of God’s security for us by the blood of Jesus Christ. God’ decision not to make it physically manifest does not mean that he is not interested in our souls. Colossians 3:3 says your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Anchor of our soul
Hebrews 6:19 says we have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner shrine behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. Because of the anchor, we cannot be shaken or moved but steady and firm in God through the blood of Jesus. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 12:15 that I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. Jesus spent his blood for our souls so Paul did same for the Gentiles. Are we ready to do as Paul did for others for the sake of Christ Jesus our Lord? Who and what is the anchor of our souls? We cannot deceive God.
Nourishment of our souls
John 6:54-56 says that he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For, my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. The blood gives us eternal life; and it nourishes our souls as drink. A number of us are spiritual dwarfs without nourishment because we have neglected feeding on the word of God save on hearsay which is dangerous for our spiritual growth or survival. Our nourishment is by the blood of Jesus and without the blood, there is no nourishment for growth. As we cherish the blood of Jesus in our total dependence through scripture reading, prayer and meditation, and by covering our affairs in righteousness with the blood of Jesus in faith, we will nourish our souls.
Justified as a gift
Romans 3:24-25 say they are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as an expiation by his blood, to be received by faith. In whom do we trust or depend for eternal life? We need to appreciate the efficacy of the blood of Jesus which the bible describes as a gift just as our lives are gifts to us from God. God’s gift manifests through his blood, forgiveness of our trespasses, and the riches of his grace which he lavished upon us, Ephesians 1:7. Without the blood of Jesus Christ, the gift of God through Christ Jesus would be illusive. By the blood, we have the free gift of God as eternal life, Romans 6:23. Do we cherish the blood of Jesus as a precious gift?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, we thank you for establishing a favourable covenant with God for us through your blood. Let this covenant keep us in perpetual relationship with our Father in heaven just as you are with him. By this covenant, let us qualify to reside in your presence in eternity. We pray in your holy name, Amen!!
