Good morning is a well wish for a worthy relationship between people. It must therefore be from the heart as a blessing to the other and same to be reciprocated. It must not be casual or cosmetic without thought. In summary it epitomizes acceptance and acknowledgement of a relationship. Jesus Christ was accepted by many yet many also derided or rejected him and the status quo has remained to date.
Reasons to say good morning
Those who accept Jesus say good morning upon acknowledgment that he is the Christ. Peter said in Matthew 16: 16; Mark 8: 29, you are the Christ, the Son of the living God. This was based on a personal conviction by the Holy Spirit for in response Jesus said in Matthew 16: 17, blessed are you, Simon Bar Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. In Mark 14: 61-62 the high priest asked Jesus, are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed and Jesus answered, I am; and you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.
Consequences of what we say
It is not what we say that matters but what the Holy Spirit says through us. Our wishes of good will or blessings are empty without the backing of the Holy Spirit. Accentuating this fact, James 5: 16 says the prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects. Jesus further charged the disciples in Matthew 16: 20; Mark 8: 30 not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.
Jesus thus wanted people to have their own personal and individual experiences with the Holy Spirit without any external influence. Paul confirmed this fact in 1 Corinthians 12: 3 that no one can say Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. What is our personal relationship with the Holy Spirit about Jesus and what do we say of him?
Jesus was not an ordinary man
In expounding the above, John 1: 10-14 say Jesus was the word in flesh, he came to the world but was not received but as many as received him, he gave them power to become children of God, born of God not of blood or flesh or man’s will. Acts 10: 36 says he is Lord of all. We boldly say Jesus Christ is our Lord and saviour and eternal judge. What do you say about Jesus?
However, those who reject Jesus Christ say he was an ordinary man born of human, Matthew 1: 16; he was an ordinary Jewish prophet, Matthew 21: 11; he was without honour, Matthew 13: 57; he was an insurrectionist, Matthew 21: 46; he is dead, John 19: 30; he was an ordinary carpenter’s son, Matthew 13:55; Mark 6:3; and his utterances and claims were blasphemous, Matthew 26: 65; Mark 2: 7, 14: 64. He who rejects Christ Jesus rejects him who sent Jesus Christ, Luke 10: 16.
Jesus was not only a Jewish prophet
Jesus was also not an ordinary Jewish prophet but more than a prophet, Matthew 11: 9; Luke 7: 26. Jesus did not only foretell hidden truths of God, but that which has been hidden since the foundation of the world, Matthew 13: 35. He laid the foundation for our redemption and restoration which no other can lay, 1 Corinthians 3: 11.
Jesus was not a rebel
Jesus was not a rebel but a man of peace. Jesus said in John 14: 27 peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Luke 4: 21; 22: 37 also says he came to fulfill scripture. Insurrectionists do the opposite. Matthew 12: 31 says every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.
Jesus is not dead but alive
Jesus is also not dead but alive and reigning in eternity. The angel of the Lord said of Jesus in Matthew 28: 6 he is not here; for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Luke 24: 34 also says the Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon. This is a witness’ account which was not controversial. Jesus honours his word as the light and the truth and the life of the world.
Jesus was not a mere carpenter’s son
Humanly, Jesus was a carpenter’s son but for a divine reason. God chose Joseph for Jesus’ natural human upbringing though not biological. Before Mary was betrothed to Joseph, she was found to be with a child of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 1: 18. In Matthew 1: 20-21 the angel confirmed Mary’s pregnancy of Jesus as that of the Holy Spirit, the savior of mankind from sin.
Joseph was poor and so was his son Jesus but 2 Corinthians 8: 9 says Christ though rich, yet for our sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. 1 Corinthians 3: 19 says for the wisdom of this world is folly; he catches the wise in their craftiness; the Lord knows the thoughts of the wise are futile.
Jesus was not blasphemous
Jesus was not blasphemous but was the truth which had eluded mankind so he spoke the truth. Jesus’ utterances were in parables and so is it today. It sounds foolish without divine understanding and is till today without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 13: 11; Mark 4: 11; Luke 8: 10. Jesus Christ is truly the resurrection and the life and the only way, John 11: 25. All authority has been given to him, Matthew 28: 18. Jesus said the world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify of it that its works are evil, John 7: 7. If these truths are blasphemous, then we have no hope of eternity.
Will Jesus be our eternal judge?
Jesus is definitely going to be our judge on the final day, John 5: 22-23. Salvation is not predicated on poverty or wealth. Jesus said in Luke 10: 16 he who hears you hears me, and he who rejects you rejects me, and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me. It is thus necessary for us to show courtesy every morning and every moment of our lives to Jesus.
Will we open up to Jesus Christ with a warm heart and a cheerful smile each and every morning? Let us court his presence and involvement in our affairs with his blessings. He knocks on the doors of our hearts to say good morning each and every day. Let us reciprocate with joy in humility, prayer and faith.
