God loves all persons yet hates sin. It is our choice to either be an enemy or a friend of God. You cannot be neither an enemy nor friend of God. Jesus said, he who is not with me is against me, Matthew 12:30. An enemy scatters what Jesus has gathered whilst a friend honours God by consolidating what belongs to God.
Blasphemy
An enemy denigrates God by blaspheming the Holy Spirit but a friend reverences the Holy Spirit. We read from Matthew 12:31 that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. This appears to be one of the few conducts which Jesus stated categorically that it will not be forgiven. Such makes you an eternal enemy of God.
Unworthy conduct
Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 6:9 that neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortionist shall inherit the Kingdom of God. A friend of God is one who has repented and asked for forgiveness through the blood of Jesus Christ.
Mocking God
An enemy of God mocks God, his word and His son Jesus Christ. Mocking God includes taking God for a joke, using God’s name in vain, uttering foolish jokes about God, disrespecting God, defaming or slandering God and His son Jesus Christ. Galatians 6:7 says; Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap. A friend of God will not mock God but the enemy.
Rejecting God
An enemy of God rejects God and his son Jesus Christ but a friend receives them with a true heart. John 1:11-12 says that, for as many as received Jesus, to them he gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believed in the name of Christ Jesus. A friend of God will acknowledge and receive Christ but an enemy will do the opposite. Where do you stand?
The mark or seal
An enemy of God carries the mark of the beast: worshipping the devil’s image and false prophecy, Revelations 19:20. A friend of God has the seal of Christ and has put his seal upon us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee, 2 Corinthians 1:22. Paul says in Ephesians 4:30; do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Your fruit tells mark or seal.
Betrayal
An enemy of God betrays God for worldly pleasures by deceit, dishonesty and disloyalty to God often motivated by greed for money. He rejects caution with foolish pride. Jesus said in Matthew 26:24; the Son of man goes as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been good of that man if he had not been born. Do you adore earthly pleasures more than Christ?
Traditions of men
An enemy of God rejects God’s commandment in favour of traditions of men, Mark 7:8-9. These traditions include worshipping of other gods like objects etc. besides God our Father in heaven. Exodus 34:14 says; thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. God’s commandments are summarized in Exodus 20:12-17; 1 Corinthians 13:13; Matthew 22:36-40; and Matthew 5:3-16. Not all traditions of men are in accordance with God’s will. Jesus says; behold I send you as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves, Matthew 10:16.
Keeping God’s Commandments
A friend of God keeps God’s commandments in his heart that he may not offend God, 2 Samuel 22:22; Psalms 18:21. An enemy of God does not and will be consumed by fire, Hebrews 10:27. It is a terrible thing to be an enemy of God, Hebrews 10:31. Do you want to be an enemy or a friend of God?
Prayer
May the Lord humble your heart and make you a worthy friend in his name. Amen!!
