Some believe there is God. Some believe they are gods themselves. Others believe there is no God. We however believe God exists and we are minded by biblical facts and in real life experience. So why do some people deny God’s existence?

When we are ignorant

Some deny God’s existence based on ignorance. Hosea 4: 6 says my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. Reference to ‘knowledge’ is divine knowledge which is attained by grace and not by academia. Isaiah 5: 13 says, therefore my people go into exile without knowledge; their nobles are dying of hunger, and their multitude is parched with thirst

Without knowledge, we will lose our citizenship of heaven and be exiled into torment in hell fire. In our frustration to satisfy a need, we deny the existence of God and thereby walk the path of destruction. Moses prayed in 2 Chronicles 1: 10, “Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before these people, for who can rule these great people of yours?” No matter how great we are or feel, we could be ignorant to act foolishly before God.

When we are proud

The bible says in 1 Samuel 2: 3 talk no more so very proudly, let not arrogance come from your mouth; for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. Those who dispute God’s existence are proud people without knowledge. Samuel says knowledge comes from God and by his knowledge he judges our actions.

Job 15: 2 says “Should the wise answer with windy knowledge, and fill themselves with the east wind? Windy knowledge is knowledge without due foundation or insight in God. The east wind means emptiness of wisdom by which we pride ourselves. Proverbs 16: 18 says pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before fall. We deny God’s existence when we pride ourselves in emptiness.

When we belong to darkness

Without the light of God, we dwell in darkness. Psalms 82: 5 says they have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk around in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. In darkness the denial of God’s existence because we are obstructed by sin from seeing the way as we should. Titus 1: 16 says they profess to know God, but they deny him by their actions. Such people pervert the grace of our God, Jude 1: 4

People love darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil, John 3: 19. We are lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 2 Timothy 3: 4. God’s light unseals the hidden truth in creation above every secret of it. Jesus said in Matthew 13: 35, “I will proclaim what has been hidden from the foundation of the world.” It is only the light of God through Christ Jesus that will uncover the hidden secrets and mysteries of God which we cannot see nor perceive in our world of darkness.

When we are foolish or unwise

Some deny God’s existence for lack of wisdom. The bible says in Psalms 14: 1, fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” Fools are not wise and the wise are not fools. Wisdom calls for an honest search to uncover the truth. God said in Proverbs 8: 17 those who seek me diligently find me. Many deny God’s existence even without taking any step to uncover the truth or to find him.

Isaiah 55: 6 says seek the LORD while he may be found, call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake their way, and the unrighteous their thoughts; let them return to the LORD, that he may have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Isaiah says we can find God when we forsake our sinful ways including our unbelief. Only the wise will change their foolish thoughts.

When we revile God

When we revile God, we in effect deny his existence. Exodus 22: 28 says you shall not revile God, or curse a leader of your people. It is a sin to issue curses against God’s existence, Leviticus 24: 15. Those who denigrate God have a miserable end.

We hold on to other doctrines and philosophies. Human precepts connote vain worship, Matthew 15: 9; Mark 7: 7. We must not be carried away by every wind of doctrine like children, Ephesians 4: 14. What Satan wants is for us to revile God. Are we going to be agents for him? God exists and reigns eternally.

Prayer

Our heavenly Father, because you live forever, we by faith shall live with you forever in Christ Jesus our Lord. We cannot change the truth and facts of history and your existence so renew our minds and hearts to accept the truth that we may live in your everlasting presence. Come into our hearts Lord Jesus and wash our sins in your precious blood and save our souls today in your holy name, Amen!!
