We must not give up on God or Christ Jesus because as servants, we are bound to serve him in obedience. There is no other way to be happy with your soul but Christ Jesus in God. The ways of the world look attractive but short lived with miserable consequences in the end. Proverbs 14:12 says there is a way that seems right unto man but the end thereof is death.
Science cannot explain everything about our world neither can our power make us satisfied without God. The evolution of modern sciences and discoveries show that science is limited in knowledge about man and his world. Science cannot rescue the soul. We did not come into existence by chance so we cannot abandon God and His Son Christ Jesus our blessed saviour. What then must we know about life?
Have moderate ambitions
It is sometimes the disappointment in expectation that lead us away from God. Our expectations are either too ambitious or too high or that the timing is wrong. We must know God’s time table and his agenda for us before we react negatively. Jesus said in Luke 17: 10 so you also, when you have done all that is commanded you, say, we are unworthy servants; we have done only what was our duty. We must learn to leave our rewards to God.
Know your mission on earth
In whatever profession or vocation we are engaged in, it is the will of God that must prevail. Without this notion, we are bound to abandon God and Christ Jesus. Matthew 7: 21 says not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord; shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Jesus said in John 4: 34, my food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work. Ephesians 5: 17 says therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
Do not rush in life
We so much in a hurry give up on God because we do not understand him or that we are impatient by nature. Hebrews 10: 36 says for you have a need of endurance, so that you may do the will of God and receive what he promised. Our relationship with God must be a reciprocal one and not one of one way demanded from God always. We also need to understand God in every situation in order to inform our response based on facts and reason. 1 Peter 2: 15 says for it is God’s will that by doing right you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.
Do not be deceived
We give up on Christ Jesus because we either think our hands have made us what we are or that God has failed us. We are then misled to believe that there are other powers somewhere who can aid us better. 2 Corinthians 11:14 says and no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. We must not rush to buy into such delusions. 1 Corinthians 12:10 says test all spirit.
Accept God’s eternal love
Paul tasted God’s love through Christ Jesus so he said in Romans 8:35, 38 who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Know what pleases God
At any time in our lives, we must ask the Holy Spirit to lead us to examine our decisions, especially why we should not give up on God and His Son, Christ Jesus our Lord. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Seek true knowledge of God
Many may argue that why should God make people suffer? For this reason some of us feel justified to abandon God and Christ Jesus. Until we come to the truth about God’s true intent, we must not deride God or Christ Jesus through whom all things were made. Hosea 4:6 says my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Even under challenging situations, some are able to praise God with joys in their hearts when they know who God is.
Appropriate God’s grace
In any trying circumstances, God gives us his grace to endure as overcomers. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. We must therefore not give in to the temptation to blaspheme God and Christ Jesus and thereby the Holy Spirit. Mark 3: 29; Luke 12: 10 says whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin. Paul said in Romans 6:1 shall we continue to sin, that grace may abound? It is a sin to deride God.
Accept God’s caution
Some of us are also leaving the faith by abandoning God and Christ Jesus because of what we hear others say. Luke 11: 35 says therefore be careful lest the light in you be darkened. We must be wise in our decisions. Psalms 14:1; 53:1 say the fool says in his heart, there is no God. Psalms 94: 8 says understand, O dullest of the people! Fools, when will you be wise? Psalms 107: 43 says whoever is wise, let him give heed to these things; let men consider the steadfast love of the Lord.
Accept God as faithful
Because we are so dear to God, he has given us Christ Jesus who will not abandon us but preserve us by his blood in the Holy Spirit. James 6: 37 says all that the Father gives me will come to me; and him who comes to me I will not cast out. Romans 5: 8 says but God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. Hebrews 8: 12 says for I will be merciful towards their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more. Let the Holy Spirit lead us in our return to God and Christ Jesus our Lord.
Prepare for the end
This world will soon pass away and what will be our fate if we should face God with Christ Jesus as the judge? 1 John 2: 17 says and the world passes away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. Revelation 21: 6 says it is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the fountain of the water of life without payment. Where will we be in eternity, HELL OR HEAVEN with our attitude towards God and Christ Jesus?
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, we confess that neither our wisdom nor power can secure our souls. Please lead us back into your loving arms, O Lord, and let us be found worthy on your return. Open our eyes to see you; our ears to hear you; and our knowledge to understand you in our walk with you. Amen!!
