The Light

God, intending to redeem the chaotic state of the world at creation said in Genesis 1:3; “Let there be light: and there was light.” God spoke light into the world of darkness and the light overshadowed the darkness. What is this light that dispersed the invincible darkness? Christ Jesus.  John 8:12 says: “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have light of life””

In John 9:5 Jesus said, “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world”. In John 12:46 Jesus said, “I have come as light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.” It is therefore clear that the light which God commanded into the deep, void, darkness, etc. however it may be described and which overcame, was no other than Jesus Christ. John 1:4 says, “In him was life, and the life was the light of men.” We need an unbridled relationship with this inextinguishable efficacious light. 1 John 1:7 says, ”But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his son cleanses us from all sin.”

Efficacy of the Light

Every light has a life span or duration of illumination. However, Jesus Christ as the light of God does not extinguish. He is eternal. God’s command concerning the light was backed by His authority. It was intended to restore and superintend over order permanently and to inject character into the world. Matthew 4:16 says “the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned.”  Irrespective of your state or where you are or whatever circumstance you find yourself, this passage is for you. Luke 1:79 says Christ came to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

By these facts we know that Jesus was in existence before creation. He has been in charge of the world since creation. His presence disperses insurmountable darkness. His nature restores order, peace, and vision. His relationship with us is permanent and unfailing based on God’s command. He operates in unrelenting and humbling meekness. He is the spoken word which became the light of the world.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, we humbly beseech you to remind us to be careful lest the light in us be darkness. In your Holy name we pray. AMEN!!!
