We refer to the Lord God Almighty as an awesome God based on knowledge of his nature works and even in his silence. God in deed manifests his awesomeness in many and several ways which the mind cannot comprehend and by our lack of comprehension, we become humbled.

God makes people and nations great

2 Corinthians 9: 8 says and God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that you may always have enough of everything and may provide in abundance for every good work. What we are comes from God and not by our strength. In Genesis 12: 2 God said to Abraham then called Abram, I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who curses you I will curse; and by you all the families of the earth shall bless themselves.

Personal and family blessings and or greatness therefore come from the Lord God Almighty, not by family name, power or physical inheritance. Deuteronomy 10: 14 says behold, to the Lord your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth with all that is in it. What is our ambition in life? We cannot do without God both as a people and as a nation. Deuteronomy 9: 14 God said, let me alone, that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.  Whatever be our ambition in life, only our awesome God can fruit it.

In testimony, Abraham’s servant said in Genesis 24: 35-36 the Lord has greatly blessed my master, and he has become great; he has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, menservants and maidservants, camels and asses. And Sarah, my master’s wife bore a son to my master when he was old; and to him he has given all that he has. So, wealth, children and inheritance come from the awesome God we serve. What do we lack in life? Time and place are no barriers to God because he is an awesome God.

Do we doubt God as an awesome God? God said to Abram in Genesis 15: 1, fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great. Sometimes greatness from God comes to us as rewards from good deeds and sometimes as a favour. What have we done for God in order to merit his favour? Doing something for God must not be based on quid pro quo or intend to bribe God because God is not corrupt and cannot be bribed. We must please God unconditionally. 2 Samuel 5: 10 says and David became greater and greater, for the Lord, the God of Hosts, was with him. Is the Lord with us?

God is awesome in judgment

How God judges our work makes him an awesome God. Ecclesiastes 12: 14 says for God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil. This makes the Lord clairvoyant, omnipresent, and an all-knowing God Almighty. Matthew 10:26; Luke 12:2 says for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. 1 Corinthians 14:25 also says God knows the secrets of our hearts. Romans 2:16 also says God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

Jesus said in Matthew 12:36 that I tell you, on the Day of Judgment men will render account for every careless word they utter, for by your words are you justified, and by your words you will be condemned. We will account to God because he knows the facts and the truth from lies and deceit. We cannot also mock God because he is just and omnipresent. Galatians 6:7 says do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption; but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Genesis 6: 5 says God knows the wickedness of man, and the imagination of the thoughts of our heart as evil.

Deuteronomy 32: 4 says the Rock (God), his work is perfect; for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and right is he. Job 8: 3 asks, does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert the right? Job 34: 12 answers saying, of a truth, God will not do wickedly, and the Almighty will not pervert justice. So Isaiah 5: 16 says but the Lord of hosts is exalted in justice, and the Holy God shows himself holy in righteousness. As a caution, Amos 5: 15 says hate evil, and love good, and establish justice in the gate; and wait continually for your God. Let is heed to the Prophet Amos.

God is awesome in majesty

Exodus 15: 7-8 says in the greatness of thy majesty thou overthrows thy adversaries; thou sends forth thy fury, it consumes them like stubble. At the blast of thy nostrils the waters piled up, the floods stood up in heap; the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea. These depict God’s greatness and majesty. In testimony, Exodus 18: 11 says now I know that God is greater than all gods. 1 Chronicles 16: 25 says for great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and he is to be held in awe above all gods.

2 Chronicles 2: 5 says the house which I am to build will be great, for our God is greater than all gods. Do we give or do what is befitting to God according to his stature? David said in 2 Samuel 24:24, I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God which costs me nothing. Let us give cheerfully to the awesome God because 2 Corinthians 9:7 says God loves a cheerful giver, not a heart that gives grudgingly. Job 33: 2 says God is greater than man. Job 36: 26 says behold, God is great, and we know him not; the number of his years is unsearchable. So, Revelation 22:13 refers to him as the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.

Psalms 48: 1 also says great is the Lord and greatly to be praised in the city of our God! His holy mountain. Psalms 77: 13 also says thy way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? Psalms 86: 10 also says for thou art great and does wondrous things, thou alone art God.  Psalms 95: 3 says for the Lord is a great God, and a King above all gods whilst Psalms 96: 4 also says for great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods. Nahum 1: 5 says the mountains quake before him, the hills melt; the earth is laid waste before him, the world and all that dwell therein. Let us reverence God in the splendor of his majesty.
