No human mind can comprehend God’s totality except led by the Holy Spirit. This is why we call him our mystic God. He is a mystic God for three reasons, his persona; his relationships; and his works. Just like all human beings, God has a distinct persona by which we identify him and also glorify him.
He is the trinity God
God manifests to us in three persons, God the Father Almighty, his Son Christ Jesus, and his Holy Spirit. They operate by unity of Spirit, hence one Spirit. Jesus said John 10: 30 the Father and I are one. It was long prophesied before Jesus in Isaiah 9: 6, for a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. This aptly explains the unity of the Spirit of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Colossians 1: 19 says for in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell. Paul wrote in Philippians 2: 6-7, although he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. God also manifests by the Holy Spirit the advocate, teacher and reminder, John 14: 26. The disciples baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 28: 19.
Divine logic or principle is not logical by man’s wisdom. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 1: 18, for the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing,… Paul explained in 1 Corinthians 2: 13-14, and we speak of these things in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual things to those who are spiritual. Those who are unspiritual… they are foolishness to them, and they are unable to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. In 1 Corinthians 3: 19, the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. Do we have God’s grace to discern spiritual truth?
He is the word made man
God is also the word both spoken and written. We read from John 1:1, in the beginning was the word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Whoever desires an encounter with God must delve into scripture. Whoever rejects the word also rejects God. We cannot love God yet deny his word. Solomon wrote in Proverbs 4: 4 let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments, and live.
For a daily walk with God, Joshua 1: 8 says this book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to act in accordance with all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall be successful. A true walk with God demands that we keep his word. Psalms 119: 11 says I treasure your word in my heart, so that I may not sin against you. The word in our hearts insulates us from sin. This is why God keeps knocking.
Paul said in Colossians 1: 27, Christ in you, the hope of glory. When we have God’s word in our hearts through Christ Jesus by the Holy Spirit, we are assured of eternal glory with him. Jesus said in John 14: 10, the words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Do we have God’s word in our hearts? The work of the Holy Spirit is a mystery.
He is clairvoyant with power
God knows our past, our present and our future. He is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent. As omniscient, he sees everything everywhere at the same time. God said in Jeremiah 16: 17 for my eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from my presence, nor is their iniquity concealed from my sight. Jeremiah 23: 24 says who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them? Says the LORD. Do I not fill heaven and earth? Says the LORD.
As omnipresent God, he is everywhere at the same time. Psalms 44: 21 says for he (God) knows the secrets of the heart. Acts 15: 8 says God knows the human heart. Paul said in Romans 8: 27 God who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. God hears everything we say in word or in our hearts. Jesus said in Matthew 12: 36, I tell you, on the day of judgment you will have to give an account for every careless word you utter, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.
God knows the thoughts of every man. Jeremiah 11: 20 says God righteously judges the heart and the mind (paraphrased). Genesis 6: 5 says the LORD saw… that every inclination of the thoughts of man’s hearts was only evil continually. God is omnipotent because he has the ultimate power. He cast out Satan from heaven, Isaiah 14: 12-15. Jesus has authority above all rule, authority, power, dominion and every name in this and all ages to come, Ephesians 1: 21. God saved the world through Christ Jesus, John 12: 47. All creation hears his voice, Psalms 107: 25; Matthew 8: 26-27; Mark 4: 39-41; 11: 29.
He is the infinite God
God has no beginning or end. Revelation 1: 8 says I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty. Alpha and Omega means the beginning and the end, Revelation 21: 6. He says in Revelation 22: 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. Nebuchadnezzar confessed of God in Daniel 4: 34,… God has everlasting sovereignty, and his kingdom endures from generation to generation.
God is infinite in wisdom and knowledge. Job 12: 13 says with God are wisdom and strength; he has counsel and understanding. Daniel 2: 21 says… he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding. Jesus said in Matthew 13: 35,… I will proclaim what has been hidden from the foundation of the world. Paul said that by grace, God revealed the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things, Ephesians 3: 9. We must go back to God for wisdom, James 1: 5.
God’s kingdom has no end, Daniel 6: 26; 7: 18; Luke 1: 33. He is the only One God, Deuteronomy 4: 39; Deuteronomy 5: 7; Isaiah 45: 22; Isaiah 46: 9. His throne is in heaven and the earth is his footstool, Isaiah 66: 1. God oversees the affairs of the world, Isaiah 40: 22-23; Haggai 2: 6. God oversees the seasons and kings, Daniel 2: 21. He provides all our needs, Philippians 4: 19; Matthew 6: 25-34; Luke 12: 22-32. God keeps his covenant and steadfast love for his obedient servants, 1King 8: 23. What does God’s persona mean to us?
Prayer
Dear Lord God Almighty, we thank you for reminding us of the mystery of your persona which makes you different from other gods and superior to all others in power and authority. May your mystic persona humble us before your throne of grace and in obedience to your will as our God. Open our minds to reverence you as we ought to. We pray in the name of Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen!!
