In the books of Matthew 9: 20-22; Mark 5: 25-34 and Luke 8: 43-48 a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years and could not be healed pulled through a multitude to touch the fringe of Jesus’ garments and had instant healing. We want to summarize what happens when we have a touch from Jesus either way just as the woman received or experienced.
- Jesus started and completed the woman’s healing process instantly with a statement of forgiveness. Jesus makes us complete when we come to him in truth. Cure does not automatically give peace but Jesus’ healing gives peace. However, God’s peace comes by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. When we ask for it, Jesus will freely give it to us.
- Jesus traced the source of the woman’s hemorrhage to a disease. Only Jesus has knowledge of our challenges and their origin. Jesus is the giver of all wisdom and we cannot do without him. Doctors will do their part but Jesus completes it. We must seek medical attention with prayer not for only ourselves but for the doctors as well because they need God’s guidance. God said in Jeremiah 1:5 that before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.
- Jesus did not rebuke the woman from touching him or his garments without his prior permission or consent. We do not require Jesus’ prior consent to come to him or to touch him. Jesus said in John 10: 10 I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. We will not be inhibited when we reach out to touch Jesus. He came for us and he has not changed his plan for us.
- Our physical eyes cannot see what Jesus sees in the spirit so the disciples did not understand when Jesus said someone had touched his garments. 1 Corinthians 2:14 says the unspiritual man does not receive the gifts of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. We must pray for discernment.
- Indeed, not all people around Jesus believe what Jesus says but subject what Jesus says to fallible human logic and common sense. We are not spiritually minded or gifted or discerning enough. James 1:5 says if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all men generously and without reproaching, and it will be given. 1 Corinthians 1: 25 says the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
- We cannot contest God’s knowledge which is in Jesus Christ. The woman did not and so must we. 1 Corinthians 1: 20 says has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? We are not wiser than Jesus Christ. Luke 11: 31 says Jesus is greater in wisdom than Solomon. Luke 2: 52 said Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favour with God and man right from his infancy. We must acknowledge Jesus for who he is if we want to taste his touch.
- God’s approach to resolving matters is above human comprehension. God manifests his testimonies through the downtrodden and the rejected so he may humble us before him. 1 Corinthians 1: 27-29 say but God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong, God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. No matter who we are, God can use us for testimony.
- Jesus knows to whom he has allowed his power for the glory of the Lord. John 16: 15 says all that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you. John 17: 10 says all mine are thine, and thine are mine, and I am glorified in them. Jesus said in Luke 4: 6 to you I will give all authority and their glory; for it has been delivered to me, and I give to whom I will. Jesus will give us the power of healing if we will avail ourselves to him.
- A walk with Jesus requires faith in him. Faith in Christ Jesus as little as a mustard seed can and will the mountains in our lives, Matthew 17:20; Luke 17:6. Jesus said according to your faith, so be it unto you, Matthew 9:29; 8:13. The woman exercised due faith and courage and it yielded a positive outcome. What is our faith in Christ Jesus when we are troubled in life?
Do we have faith in Jesus Christ as the woman did? We do not have to be distinguished personalities anywhere but people of faith with a good heart in Christ Jesus ready to be his ambassadors in public. The world is fast grinding to a close, are we ready to heal our souls with Jesus Christ?
Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, please give us the spirit of faith to approach your throne of grace with boldness yet in humility in truth. Make us your ambassadors and fishers of perishing souls for your name sake. Wash us in your precious blood as we rededicate our lives to you. Use us as vessels in your court of heaven. We thank you Jesus for answered prayer because we have asked in our name, Amen!!
