The uncertainty of life rather has certainty of death. It also has the certainty of destination after death, either heaven or hell. The choice of certainty of destination rests with us. Our excuses that we were oblivious to what God wanted and even as to his existence will not be countenanced. On that day, God will administer judgment in righteousness based on the content of our hearts not our lips.
Jesus said in Revelation 3: 20, Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with me. If we admit Jesus into our hearts to stay with us, he will not judge us but if we do not, he will be our judge. Many would ask, “how did we hear from God that we did not obey?” God speaks to us in many ways including as follows:
God speaks to us through dreams etc.
It is written in Matthew 1: 20, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her womb is from the Holy Spirit. It writes further in Matthew 2: 13 “Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.”
God also speaks to us by revelation as Paul said in Galatians 1:12 say for I did not receive it from a human source, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ. Paul also said in Ephesians 3: 3-4 and how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I wrote above in a few words, a reading of which will enable you to perceive my understanding of the mystery of Christ.
God speaks to us through vision: Acts 2: 17 says ‘In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. In Acts 9: 11 the Lord said to him (Ananias) in a vision, “Get up and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man of Tarsus named Saul. God speaks to us daily and until we attain righteousness, we will miss his instructions and face judgment in irreversible tears of everlasting sorrow.
By our conscience
Every soul God has created knows what is right or wrong. Jesus said in Luke 12: 57, ‘And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right? Paul said in 2 Corinthians 8: 21 for we intend to do what is right not only in the Lord’s sight but also in the sight of others. Galatians 6: 9 say so let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up. 2 Thessalonians 3: 13 say brothers and sisters, do not be weary in doing what is right. James 4: 17 says anyone, then, who knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, commits sin.
God’s seat of judgment will also be our conscience as Paul said in Romans 2: 12, all who have sinned apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. God continues to forewarn us in many other ways. The basis of God’s judgment is summarized in Jeremiah 6: 19: Hear, O earth; I am going to bring disaster on this people, the fruit of their schemes, because they have not given heed to my words; and as for my teaching, they have rejected it.
Preparing for the Day of Judgment
David said in Psalms 90: 12 so teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart. We must ask God to give us wisdom to prepare for his judgment in righteousness. Micah 4: 2 says “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths. Micah says we must know how to walk with God to escape judgment.
It is written in Revelation 20: 12, the dead were judged according to their works, as recorded in the books. God’s book of life is beyond reproach. Our works in public and in secret shall be exposed and judged on the final day. We cannot hide our deeds for the bible says in Mark 4: 22; Luke 8: 17 for nothing is hidden that will not be disclosed, nor is anything secret that will not become known and come to light.
Paul said in 1 Corinthians 3: 14, if what has been built on the foundation survives, the builder will receive a reward. John warns us in 2 John 1: 8, be on your guard, so that you do not lose what we have worked for, but may receive a full reward. Jesus said in Revelation 22: 12, “See, I am coming soon; my reward is with me, to repay according to everyone’s work. Will our works survive the test at judgment?
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, in truth we confess that our works of sin and their foundations may not survive your judgment. Mercifully and graciously prepare us for your Day of Judgment which no one can escape. Help us to seek you with reverence and in obedience through your precious blood. Help us to guard your will with divine alertness so we may not miss our crowns. Wash and cleanse us by your blood every moment of our lives. Precious Jesus, be our Christ in your holy name, Amen!!
