It is debatable whether or not mankind came into existence by an accident. It is however not in dispute that we come from the womb. The Lord asked in Isaiah 49: 5, who formed me in the womb to be his servant…, and my God has become my strength. From Isaiah’s deposition, God formed him hence, God is his strength.
We read from Exodus 15: 2, the LORD is my strength and my might, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. The LORD as our strength and salvation is repeated in Psalms 118: 14, 21; Isaiah 12: 2; 44: 2. God expounds his ownership of mankind in Isaiah 44: 21, I formed you, you are my servant; O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me.
It is written in Isaiah 44: 24, this says the LORD, your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb; I am the LORD, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who by myself spread out the earth…This gives credence to the creation account in Genesis 1:1, God created the world; and in Genesis 1: 27, God created humankind in his image, male and female he created them.
God revealed further in Jeremiah 1: 5, before I formed you in the womb I knew you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations. God knew us before we were formed in our mothers’ wombs. It means we were spiritual beings prior to our formation in the womb except that God formed us to be what he wants us to be in this world just as Jesus was in existence prior to his coming into the world with a mission to save the world. So, why did God form us in the womb?
We taste of his protection
Just as we were comfortably protected in our mothers’ wombs, so shall God protect us if we will be humble to him, depend on him, feed on him and trust him as helpless children then we may develop and grow to spiritual maturity. Jesus said in Matthew 18: 3, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. It is written in 1 Peter 2: 2, like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow into salvation.
Just as a mother naturally and without an option cares for a child in her womb because the child is a natural part of her till birth when the child is severed or separated from her by the umbilical cord, so does God care for us in his presence until we are severed from him through sin. Isaiah 49: 15 says, can a woman forget her nursing child, or show no compassion for the child of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Are we like children in the womb?
To remind us of our composition
If God formed us in the womb, then only he is infinitely knowledgeable about what we are composed of. He knows our strengths and weaknesses in accordance with his divine plan for each of us. He knows the talents he has given to each of us and the mission he wants us to accomplish. So it was right when Jesus said in John 15: 5,… apart from me you can do nothing. We were woven in his image as his branches.
Paul rightly said in 2Corintthians 12: 10 for whenever I am weak, then I am strong. Jesus said in Corinthians 12: 9, my grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness. God who formed us knows our weakness and provides for it. David said in Psalms 121: 2 my help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. David was aware of God as his creator and therefore knew what he was composed of, his history, his origin, and the consideration by which he was made. Jesus said in Matthew 11: 28 come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Only Jesus knows us individually and what will give rest to our souls in any circumstance. Do we accept Jesus?
To remind us that God knows our beginning and end
If God formed us in the womb, then only he knows our beginnings and our ends. He said in Revelation 1: 8; 21: 6; 22: 13 I am the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. He knows for how long we shall live and when we will die. Job 12: 10 says in his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of every human being. He knows the challenges in between the times. Nothing is hidden from him.
Isaiah 29: 16 says, you turn things upside down! Shall the potter be regarded as the clay? Shall the thing made say of the maker, He did not make me, or the thing formed say of the one who formed it, He has no understanding? It is explained further in Jeremiah 18: 6, just like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. Paul asked in Romans 9: 21 has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one object for special use and another for ordinary use? What will our end be?
To remind us that we are precious in God’s sight
Because we were formed by God, we are precious in God’s sight. To that extent, he will protect us if we are willing and ready to obey his instructions. David said in Psalms 72: 14, from oppression and violence he redeems their life; and precious is their blood in his sight. God protects from death, those who defer to him as Lord. Psalms 116: 15 says precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful ones.
We must walk righteously in order to continue to be precious in God’s sight. Job 33: 11 says he puts my feet in the stocks, and watches all my paths. David said in Psalms 1: 6 for the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. Further, Psalms 145: 20 says the LORD watches over all who love him, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. May we pray to God as David did in Psalms 17: 8, guard me as the apple of the eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.
To remind us that we are accountable to God
All creation is accountable to the creator Lord God Almighty so we must be upright. 2Corinthians 6: 20 says for you were bought with a price (the blood of Jesus); therefore glorify God in your bodies. Paul simplified it in 1 Corinthians 10: 31, whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God. We will be judged based on our stewardship. Jesus said in Matthew 7: 16, 20, you will know them by their fruits.
Jesus said in Revelation 22: 12, see, I am coming soon; my reward is with me, to repay according to everyone’s work. Paul wrote in Galatians 6: 7-8 do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for you reap whatever you sow. If you sow to your own flesh, you will reap corruption from the flesh; but if you sow to the Spirit, you will reap eternal life from the Spirit. What is our mission from our Maker? May the Holy Spirit guide us to repent and accept Jesus and live by his word of life.
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, we repent and acknowledge you as our maker. You know our strength and weakness, our days on earth and our purpose in this life. Mercifully hear us, accept us and lead us in your precious blood according to your plan for our lives. Humble us to obey you always in your holy name, Amen!!
